The competion is themed: "New Egypt" and all photographers are welcomed to participate. The winning photos will be chosen by a prominent jury panel including the prominent photographers, artists, and journalists.
The panel includes photographers Randa Shaath, who has worked for Agence France-Presse, Al-Ahram Weekly and is the photo editor of El Shourouk newspaper. Her photos have been exhibited across Europe, America and the Middle East, and Khaled Desouki, a Photo journalist.
Xenia Nikolskaya is a professional photographer who lives in St. Petersburg, Stockholm and Cairo, her photos have been exhibited in several solo shows and are held in prestigious collections (such as Sveriges Allmänna Konstförening,UBS bank, Bibliotheca Alexandrina Arts Centre). Her work has been commissioned by Newsweek, GEO, Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Hermitage State Museum.
This year's panel also includes prominent artists such Amr Waked who is an Egyptian film, television and stage actor. He is best known to international audiences and in Hollywood as the terrorist leader in the 2005 film Syriana where he worked alongside George Clooney for which in 2006 he won a 'Special Award for Arabs in The International Cinema' at the Cairo International Film Festival. Waked joined the 2011 Egypt anti-government protests.
Prominent journalists and art critics are also part of the jury members including the renowned television anchor Reem Maged who presents a daily talk show, Baldna Bel Masry, on the private television channel ONTV.
The panel will be also joined by the art critic Dalia Chams who started as a reporter in French for Al-Ahram Hebdo, where she has been working for 20 years, and the Egyptian TV. Today Chams heads the Art and Feature pages at Al-Ahram Hebdo and the Social section of El-Shourouk Al-Gadid newspaper.
This prominent panel will choose 30 winning photos reflecting "New Egypt" The winner will be awarded a prize of 1,000 Euros. The second winner will be awarded a Digital SLR camera. A new special award has been established called "The Mohammed Hassan Award” for the photo that has the best journalistic skills in memory of the young photographer Mohammed Hassan. Mohamed Hassan was one the winners of the first photo competition organised by the Delegation.
The twelve winning photos will form the months of the specially produced 2012 calendar, which will be published by the Delegation of the European Union. The best thirty photos will be displayed for the public in an art gallery in Cairo, and will be included in the competition catalogue.
The deadline for the competition is November 14.
