Represented by Olesya Novik (Ukraine/Egypt), Egypt will be one of four African countries to take part in the International Surrealism Now art exhibition that will open 23 December and continue until 5 January 2018 in POROS Museum (Museu Portugal Romano em Sicó) in Condeixa village in Portugal.

The other African countries are Morocco, Nigeria and Algeria.

The biggest exhibition of the 21st century dedicated to surrealist art will showcase works of more than 100 artists from 48 countries. The event will include paintings, drawings, digital art, photographs and sculpture with some monuments to be displayed in public spaces throughout Portugal.

Among the exhibition organisers is Portugese renowned artist Santiago Ribeiro, who expressed his delight to have artists from the African continent featured at the event.

"Africa has strong cultural influences and a role to play on the international scene due to the large African presence in Portugal, especially from the five Afro-Portuguese countries. It is only natural that African art is included and showcased in this international art exhibit,” he commented in a press release.

Ribeiro is the mastermind behind the International Surrealism Now initiative, which he brought forward in 2010 in Coimbra with a major exhibit organised by Bissaya Barreto.
