The Maq‘ad of Sultan Qaitbey (MASQ) is hosting an event titled 'Art in the Times of Corona!' on 15 September, where a variety of art activities will be held.
The event opens at 5pm with the 'Daughters of the Nile' sculpture exhibit, featuring Egyptian sculptors who explore the theme of ‘Womankind.’
An hour later, there will the unveiling of the 4ELEMENTS mosaic, an enormous six-metre mosaic made of 300 kilos of glass created by local female artisans of MISHKA, a brand of jewellery and leather goods handmade in Qaitbey, with contributions from Iman al-Banna, Amal Akhnoukh and Eslam Bin Na'eb.
Moreover, there will be an unveiling of a new sculpture on the theme of life and death by artist Hossam Hussein, who has just completed a two-week residency in Qaitbey.
The even ends with a concert by Basheer and his band playing Upper Egyptian (Ja'ffary) traditional music in modern arrangements.
"Celebrate Qaitbey's tradition of glassblowing, discover some amazing local artists and end the night with the lively music of the Mohammed Basheer Band," said the organisers.
