British Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum will receive funds to develop their collection of Middle Eastern photography and art for exhibitions opening in November

A major exhibition entitled Light from the Middle East: New Photography, will be held at the Victoria & Albert museum from 13 November 2012 - 7 April 2013.

The Art Fund, which helps museums purchase their collections, offers £150,000 ($252,000) to the British Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum to develop their collections of 20th century photograph and contemporary Middle Eastern artists.

A large part of this collection will focus on the Arab Spring. The institution acknowledges that a significant number of works produced in the last ten years focus on the social changes and political upheavals in the Middle East. Last year's Arab Spring and its socio-political developments is among the crucial elements.

The exhibition will include internationally-established artists from the Arab World, such as Abbas, Youssef Nabil and Walid Raad, as well as emerging talents, such as Taysir Batniji, Shadi Ghadirian and Abdulnasser Gharem. The collection will also include works by Egyptian-born Nubian, Fathi Hassan, who is now based in Italy.
