A short walk around the neighbourhood allowed us to meet young students from the college preparing new artwork on the walls of the college. Students are working on seven empty sections of the wall, covering them with artwork related to the January Revolution.
Our conversation with the students revealed that the creation of this mural art is a project of 3rdyear students from the mural painting department. “We submitted many works and the best of them were chosen to be transferred onto the walls,” Aya Mohamed, one of the students artists commented.
Before implementation of the project, the walls were either empty or covered with old posters of random themes. Students started their work on Sunday 20 March. “We cleaned the walls and prepared them for the graffiti. On Tuesday, we started placing our designs on it,” another student told Ahram Online.
“Creating murals can be a lengthy process. We work in teams of nine. Each team is responsible for one section of the wall, one mural painting.” Aya concluded.
The artwork is still in the process of creation. The students expect it to be finished by Thursday 31 March and it is certainly worth checking the area after a few days.
