Actor Abdel-Aziz Makewy, who acted in tens of movies and television shows over the course of decades, died Monday morning, according to a statement released by actor Sameh El-Soreity on his facebook page.

Makewy's most memorable moment on the silver screen came in the closing scenes of the 1960s classic film Cairo 30, where he flashed anti-British occupation flyers to hundreds of pedestrians in old Cairo as he was chased by English soldiers.

The 82-year-old actor died at a nursing home in Heliopolis district.

Makewy graduated with a Bachelor in Theatre in 1954 and was a member of the Actors Syndicate.

He was trilingual, fluent in Arabic, English and Russian.

His first appearance on the stage came in the 1950s on stage in Ta'am le Kol Fam (Food For Every Mouth) written by the renowned author Tawfik El-Hakim.

On the silver screen, he landed a role in La Tutfee Al-Shams (Don’t Put Out The Sun, 1961), and then took part in the classic La Waqt lel Hob (No Time For Love, 1963).

The late actor starred in the 1960's Al-Sakiya TV quintet written by late renowned author Saad El-Din Wahba.

More recently, Makewy also appeared in the television series Awraq Masreya (Egyptian Papers, 2003).

In his last years, Makewy tragically ended up homeless on the streets of Alexandria, and finished his lifein poor health.

He refused any help, untill his leg was broken in an accident, prompting the Actors Syndicate arranged for him to receive medical care at an army hospital, then secured a place for him at a nursing home where he spent his last days.
