Still from Eyes of a Thief
Palestinian film Eyes of a Thief (2014) is scheduled to screen at NVIC (The Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo) on Sunday, 29 May.
Written and directed by Palestinian/Jordanian filmmaker Najwa Najjar, the film stars well-known Egyptian actor Khaled Abol Naga, with co-stars Algerian singer and songwriter Souad Massi and actress Maisa Abd Elhadi.
Inspired by true events — namely the second Palestinian Intifada — the film is centred on Tareq (Aboul-Naga), a Palestinian father who is released from an Israeli prison and who returns to his hometown to find his daughter Nur.
“As secrets are uncovered,” reads the event description on Facebook, “Tareq’s relationship with Nur, Lila, Adel and the locale sheds light on the stifling nature of contemporary Palestinian society, while revealing Tareq’s hidden past.”
“The sense of moral certainty is replaced by questionable individual choices with no easy answers,” the description adds.
The cast of Eyes of a Thief also includes Malak Ermileh, from Balata Refugee Camp near the city of Nablus, and Ameer Kurt, from Jerusalem, both first time actors.
Eyes of a Thief is a co-production by Oktober Productions (Iceland), MACT Productions (France) and Laith Media (Algeria).
