Art Alert: The Handmaiden, based on Victorian-era lesbian novel, to screen in Cairo

Korean/Japanese mystery film The Handmaiden (2016) will be screened at Cairo’s Magnolia Leaves of Art on 10 April.

Directed by Park Chan-wook, the movie revolves around a man who plans a plot to deceive a Japanese woman so he can take her inheritance with the help of a pickpocket orphan.

The film stars Min-hee Kim, Jung-woo Ha, and Jing-wong. The script is written by Chung Seo-kyung, who was inspired by Fingersmith, "a Victorian-era lesbian novel written by Sarah Waters," according to Variety.
