On Thursday 12 October the film titled The Sultan and the Saint (2016) will be screened at the Naguib Mahfouz Hall of Al-Ahram Foundation.
The film, directed by Alexander Kronemeris, a historical view on two men of faith, a Christian preacher, St Francis of Assisi (Alexander McPherson), and the Ayyubid sultan of Egypt, Al-Kamil (Zack Beyer), during the years of the Fifth Crusade (1213–1221).
The documentary brings to the fore "a century of war, distrust, and insidious propaganda in a search for mutual respect and common ground, [telling] one of the great, lost stories from history and speaks with urgency to our present," the documentary's website explains.
The Sultan and the Saint has won numerous awards, including awards of excellence at the INDIE Fest Film Awards, the Best Film on Spirituality and in the History Category at the Communicator Awards, World Tolerance Award, Gold Award at the World Media Fetsival (Germany), Platinum Award at the World Pluralism Awards, among many other recognitions.
