Art Alert: 4th edition of Zawya Short Film Festival

The annual festival will present 14 films this year, to be screened over 3 days

Zawya cinema will host the Zawya Shorts IV between 31 January and 2 February, showcasing 14 short films made by Egyptian directors or ones based in Egypt.

Chosen from a pool of submissions, the line-up includes the following 14 films:

South of the Cinema, by Mena Yousry
My Father Couldn’t Save the Kite, by Khaled Medhat Moeit
Intense Practice to Improve Performance, by Yasser Shafiey
Jar Full of Fish, by Joseph Adel
Fifteen, by Sameh Alaa
The Sea, by Nahed Nasr
On my way to the Cinema, by Sondos Tarek
Tomatic, by Christophe Saber
Like the Sun, by Hana Mahmoud
An Experi-mental E-Motion Picture, by Noura A. Rahman
My Extended Arm, by Mohamed Allam
Golden Threads, by Abdul-Rahman Salem
Being in Seventh Heaven, by Christeen Hanna
Mona & Rahim, by Hady Bassiony

The films will be competing for four prizes; Red Star Films' Best Film Award, worth EGP 15,000, Misr International Films' Best Director Award, worth EGP 10,000, Film Clinic Jury Prize, worth EGP 10,000, New Century Productions Audience Award, worth EGP 10,000, and Dahshur Residence Best Script, which grants the winner free participation in any of the Dahshur workshops until June.

All screenings will be followed by a Q&A with the directors, and the ticket includes a full day’s screening.

Zawya Shorts has been an annual festival since it began in 2015 with the aim of supporting and giving a platform to Egyptian filmmakers' short films.

The festival runs between 31 January and 2 February, daily at 7pm
