The Film Society in Cairo wrapped up the 46th edition of their annual festival Saturday in a closing ceremony held at the Mohamed Farid Cinema in Imad Al-Din Street, with many filmmakers and critics in attendance.

Under the helm of director of cinematography Mahmoud Abdel Samea, the awards ceremony ended the annual event where eight films were screened, discussed and competed for the 2019 awards.

Actor Mohamed Saad caught attention at the ceremony where he received the Best Actor award in his leading role in 'The Treasure 2’, while Bassem Samra received the award for Best Supporting Actor for ‘Sons of Rizk 2.’ Hanan Soliman won Best Supporting Actress for her role in 'Where We're Born.'

In addition to Soliman, the jury awarded 'When We're Born,' by director Tamer Ezzat, the lion's share of the prizes, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Scenario (Nadine Shams), Best Actress (Salma Hassan), while actress Oumayma El-Sibai received the jury's certificate of appreciation for her role in the film.

The makers of 'The Blue Elephant' also won big as Tarek Mostafa won the Best Makeup award, Ahmed Abu El-Saad won Best Sound Design, Nahed Nasrallah won Best Styling Designer, Hisham Nazih won Best Musician, and Ahmed Hafez won Best Editing.

Maged Al-Kadwani won the Special Jury Award for his role in the movie 'The Guest.’ Ali Hussam won the Best Decoration award.

Ahmed Youssef was named Best Director of Photography for ‘Scarecrow,' while 'Between Two Seas' won the Best Film Poster award.

Meanwhile, director Hadi Al-Bagouri was voted by members of the association audience as best director for 'The Guest.'

During the event, other two films were screened and discussed, but left without awards: 'The Secret Men’s Club' directed by Khaled El-Halafawy, and 'The Passage' by director Sherif Arafa.

Many iconic names of Egyptian cinema were honoured during the festival, including actors Ali Al-Kassar and Tewfik El-Dekn, scriptwriter Abo El-Seoud El-Ebiary, and director Mamdouh Shoukry, in addition to contemporary filmmakers including director Daoud Abdel-Sayed, scriptwriter Wahid Hamed, musician Mounir Al-Wassimi, actor Lotfi Labib, art director Nihad Bahgat and critic Salah Hashim.

The 46th edition was dedicated to late critic Youssef Cherif Rizkallah for his "eternal imprint on the annals of cinematic history."

The jury, headed by critic Kamal Ramzi, included Osama Abdel-Fattah, professor of montage Rahma Montaser, critic Ola El-Shafei, interior designer Fawzi Al-Awamri, director and scriptwriter Mohammed Abu Saif, critic Mohammed Al-Ruby, director of photography Mohamed Aser, and director Hani Lasheen.

Founded in 1960, the event is one of the oldest festivals supported by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.
