Countdown to 14th Bibliotheca Alexandrina Festival, opening with Marcel Khalife concert

The festival will kick off on 29 July and continue for six weeks, bringing performers from Egypt and the international scene to Alexandria

With over 40 events spanning more than six weeks, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina's International Summer Festival will bring Egyptian, regional and international performers to the Mediterranean city of Alexandria.

In its 14th edition, the festival will offer the largest number of events that will bring much-needed cultural change to audiences of all generations and artistic tastes.

The festival will include mostly music events topped with theatre performances, film screenings as well as a special day tailored for the whole family.

The festival will be inaugurated on 29 July with a concert by Lebanese oud master and composer Marcel Khalife. 

The music programme promises a vibrant line-up with concerts by an array of established Egyptian singers and musicians including Hany Shaker, Ali El-Haggar, Omar Khairat, Hanan Madi and Mohamed Mohsen.

The line-up also includes performances by Arab and international singers and musicians including celebrated Algerian singer Souad Massi, who will close this year’s edition with a concert on 8 September, as well as Syrian singer Faya Younan, maestro Selim Sehab, and Lebanese musicians Tania Saleh and Rima Khcheich.

India will participate as the guest of honour in this year’s edition, with Egyptian audiences to be treated to an array of traditional Indian dance performances and folk music concerts.
