Dozens of young Egyptian women have submitted their entries to a singing contest organised by the US Embassy in Cairo and ShareTheMic.
Launched through the Promos app on Facebook, the contest is open to all Egyptian female singers. All entries were submitted and currently await evaluation by the jury and listeners.
Listeners can vote for their favourite contestants by visiting the contest's official website.
The winner of the competition will travel to New York City, where she will record her song at Manhattan Center Studios. She will also be offered additional vocal training.
Contest organisers note that New York will become the winner's "recording home, as [the winner will work] with some of the best engineers, producers and musicians in the recording industry."
Among the jury members are Egyptian soprano and pedagogue Nevine Allouba; Egyptian-American singer/songwriter Yasmine Tayeby; and Mohamed Safi, host of a popular radio programme on Nile FM.
