Art Alert: Syrian star Assala to close 28th Arab Music Festival in Cairo

Renowned Syrian singer Assala will close the ongoing Arab Music Festival with a concert held at the Cairo Opera House's main hall on 12 November.

Born in 1969 in Damascus, Assala's three-decades long career brought her high recognition and a large fan base across the Arab region. 

She started by singing religious and patriotic songs and her career took a significant turn in 1991 she released her album which included 4 Egyptian songs - including her hit Law Ta'rafou - performed in classical Egyptian tarab style.

Ever since she has over 20 albums to her name.

Assala also hosted tens of the best known Arab musicians in her successful TV show Sola, in which she featured guests play live.

In 2019, in collaboration with Ryan Tedder, Avril Lavigne, Luis Fonsi, Hussain Al Jassmi and Tamer Hosny, Assala performed "Right Where I'm Supposed to Be" the Official Song of the Abu Dhabi's Special Olympics World Summer Games.

Assala's concert in Cairo will close the 28th edition of the Arab Music Festival which opened on 1 November presenting 91 artists from Egypt and Arab region.
