El-Rab3 Centre is hosting 12 bands during its Tune Festival taking place between 9 and 19 September at the centre, which is located on the historic Al-Moaz Street in Old Cairo.

"In nine days, Tune Festival will host some of the most outstanding projects by alternative independent, or 'underground', musicians," the centre said on Monday.

Among the projects are Kawkab, Carisma, Ko7etee, Tarkeba, Rouh Project, Dorgy, Sabry Makin's, Jazz-Zone, Rai-na and Oscarisma.

The festival will also host a Sufi night for El-Hadra on its second day, and the closing ceremony will feature singer Ali El-Alfy and the Sinatras.

Organised by Pro Major, the festival is set to be an annual event aiming to offer a space for independent music.

Cultural events and activities in Egypt restarted in July as part of the country's reopening after an initial COVID-19 shutdown. All events are being held under strict health measures that include social distancing, obligatory masks, and sanitisation.
