Darb 1718 is to host a hip hop edutainment night on March 20 in an effort to spread knowledge and appreciation of the genre’s four elements: breakdance, rap, graffiti and DJ-ing.

The evening is to kick off with a talk on the hip hop genre, followed by an evening of music and dance performances.

The event's organisers had noticed a lack of knowledge about hip hop in Egypt and worldwide, according to their statement.

They hope that the event will shed light on the essence of the hip-hop culture, which stands for peace, love, unity and joy.

"Rap musician and hip hop culture scholar Amr Abdu, known by his stage name Abdude, will give a talk introducing and explaining each of the elements," reads the statement.

Performances lined up for the night include a live graffiti performance by Sam, a rap performance by Young Pharoz, a breakdance battle hosted by Breaks N’ Stuff, followed by the Swaggers Crew with hip hop, and ending the night with DJ Scratching by DJ TD.

Programme:
Friday 20 March, 7 pm
Darb 1718, Kasr El-Sham3 Street, Al-Fakhareen – Old Cairo
