Written by Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot will be performed at Cairo's Falaki theatre starting 21 May.

The absurdist play was originally written in French in 1948 and premiered in Paris in 1953.

Moustafa Khalil directs the play and will be performed at Falaki Theatre by Waleed Hammad, Nezar Alderazi, Jason Will and Maria Doyle.

The two main characters, Vladimir and Estragon, wait endlessly and in vain for the arrival of someone named Godot.

Waiting for Godot incorporates many of Beckett’s own ideas and themes from his previous writings, including the idea of the ‘suffering of the being,’ yet the play has been interpreted in various ways since its premiere.

The English translation was written by Beckett himself, and was voted the most significant English language play of the 20th century.

Khalil graduated with a Theatre Major from The American University in Cairo (AUC) in 2012.

Khalil has been active in AUC’s theatre productions as an actor, with a growing parallel interest in directing.

For three years he taught at Helen O’Grady Drama Academy, a prominent drama school for children across African countries.

In April 2015, he directed his debut in play writing, titled For Her, which was performed at Rawabet Theatre.
