The festival showcased 14 plays from 12 Arab and African countries with Egypt's Collar and Bracelet winning the best play award

Egyptian play wins best performance at Carthage Theatre Days

During the grand ceremony held at the Tunis Opera House on 15 December, the jury announced the winners of the 21st Carthage Theatre Days, which opened on 7 December.

This year 14 plays from 12 Arab and African countries competed for the awards. The festival hosted troupes from Tunisia, Morocco, Palestine, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Senegal, and Kenya.

The closing ceremony was presented by Tunisian actress and director Rabab Al Sarayri who began by honouring remarkable theatre figures from the Arab world: writer, actor and director Mohamed Raja Farhat (Tunisia), playwright and novelist Ezzedine Madani (Tunisia), Mohamed Moumen (Tunisia), theatre director Samir Al-Asfouri (Egypt), playwright, director and actor Roger Assef (Lebanon), and Thouraya Jobrane (Morocco). 

The stage was then taken by Tunisian actor Raouf Ben Amor who announced the names of winners of the parallel section awards:

- The Salah Al-Kassab Award for Theatrical Creation: Awarded to Dr. Abdelhalim Messaoudi.
- The General Union of Tunisian Workers Award for the best theatrical technique: Awarded to Zein Abdelkefi for his musical design for the plays The blood Moon and Marché noire.
- The Nejiba Hamrouni SNJT Award (National Union of Tunisian Journalists) for Freedom of Expression: Awarded to Hedi Abbes for the play Zoom.
- The international organization of the Francophonie Award for cultural diversity: Awarded to Marché noire, adapted from the original text In the Solitude of Cotton Fields of Bernard-Marie Koltes, directed by Ali Yahyaoui.
- The ISESCO Award for Best Theatrical Work written in literary Arabic: Awarded to the play The Messages of Freedom, (Tunisia).
- The General Directorate of Prisons and Rehabilitation, the World Organization Against Torture and INDA Award for  best three theatrical works of theatre clubs in penitentiary institutions: Awarded to the plays Secret Garden, directed by Ali Mejri (The civil prison of El Mornaguia), Errih Lbarra, directed by Ali Boudi (Civil prison of Sfax), and La vie et le temps directed by Salem Werghi (The penitentiary institution of El Mourouj).

Fourteen plays from 12 countries participated in this year's Carthage Theatre Days. The jury of this section was chaired by Raouf Ben Amor (Tunisia) with Salah Al Kassab (Iraq), Abdelwahed Ben Yasser (Morocco), Koffi Kwahulé (Côte D’Ivoire) and Gamil Yakout (Egypt).

The official awards of the 21st Carthage Theatre Days were announced as follows:

The best theatrical text award
Awarded to playwright Abdenebi Zidi for his play Kalb Assit

The best director award
Awarded to Mohamed El Horr for the play Another Sky 

The best scenography award
Awarded to The City of Henne by Youssef Balouchi

The best actress award
Awarded to Nadia Boussetta for her role in the play Cicatrice

The best actor award
Awarded to Raed Mohsen for his role in the play Ismail Spaces 

The best play award
Awarded to the play Collar and Bracelet by Nasser Abdel-Moneim 

Founded in 1983, the Carthage Theater Days (Journées théâtrales de Carthage, JTC) is a theatre festival that was held every other year in Tunisia, alternating with the Carthage Cinema Days, founded in the same year. Since 2015, the JTC has been held annually.

This year, the JTC's 21st edition took place between 7 and 15 December.
