As part of its regular online releases during the coronavirus lockdown, the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Russia, brings to us a free video of The Fountain of Bakhchisarai ballet to be released 31 May for a limited time.
Choreographed by Rostislav Zakharov to music by Boris Asafyev, the choreographic masterpiece in four acts, based on the poem by Alexander Pushkin, features Andrei Yakovlev as Prince Adam and Anastasia Matvienko as Maria.
The 2017 production includes the Mariinsky Theatre's orchestra conducted by Boris Gruzin.
Since the beginning of the general shutdown of all cultural venues, Mariinsky Theatre closed to the public (until 31 May 2020) and moved its activities online, sharing a large number of pre-recorded performances with viewers around the world.
Most of the ballets, opera and orchestral shows are being released for a limited number of days or even hours, so it is advised that audiences keep checking the Mariinsky Theatre's YouTube channel
for new releases.
