Famed Lebanese singer Majida El-Roumi is scheduled to give her annual charity concert at Cairo Festival City's new open air theatre on Friday 5 April.

El-Roumi will be accompanied by the United Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra and conducted by Nader Abbassi.

The proceeds of the concert, with tickets priced between EGP 1,000 and EGP 3,000, will go to charity.

Born in 1957 in Tyre, El-Roumi began her career on the televised Lebanese talent show Studio El-Fan in 1974.

Her repertoire comprises 12 albums, including Kalimat (1991), Rasayel (1996), Qitharat El-Samaa (2003), Eetazalt El-Gharam (2006), and Nour Men Nour (2013).

El-Roumi also starred in a film by Egyptian director Youssef Chahine, Awdat El-Ibn El-Dal (The Return of the Prodigal Son) in 1976.

A holder of dozens of awards, El-Roumi received Lebanon’s National Shield of Honour of the Cedars, Order of Commodore in June 2011, and the golden key to the city of Alexandria in March 2014.

The concert is being organised by Raie Misr Organization.

Founded in 2016, Raie Misr is a non-profit “whose mission is to improve the lives of those in poverty and help them attain their basic human needs," according to its website.
