The living room is the first room in the home that anyone goes into when they enter through the front door. It’s where most of the family or guests gather, including to talk, watch television, discuss important issues, and more.
According to interior stylist Menna H Ashour, blending Feng Shui into the living room is a high priority in planning and design. “In our modern lives that can drain our energy, we are becoming more and more aware of holistic benefits. Feng Shui is a proven practice in interior design that can bring flow to our environment.”
Feng Shui tips to bring good vibes to any living room:
Clear clutter: One of the easiest Feng Shui principles is not to let clutter accumulate in your living room. Whatever you do not need, use, or love, let go. To enjoy a restful living room, clutter and other untidy distractions should be avoided.

Choose harmony: Consider balancing décor materials so that one material doesn’t overpower others. Opt for a variety of textures and finishes. Soften metal objects with fluffy pillows, throws, and a house plant or two.

Add life energy: Plants play an important role in producing good Feng Shui in any living room. They can help to purify the air and give the room positive vibes and a splash of texture with their leafy patterns.
Avoid the centre: If the living room is in the centre of the house, energy can’t easily reach it because it has to pass through too many other rooms. The ideal living room should have at least two exterior walls, be close to the outdoors, and be naturally lit. This allows fresh and positive energy to enter and flow freely, activating Feng Shui elements and helping them to create a restorative social space.
Incorporate positive artwork: On a conscious and subconscious level, our environment is always influencing us, so opting for artwork that includes smiling faces, beautiful landscapes, and other images that are optimistic allows positive energy to flow.
Place the television: According to Feng Shui, it’s preferable to place a television in the north of the living room. This layout is said to attract good luck, while a television positioned in the south part of the room enhances opportunity. Because of the active (yang) energy of televisions, they activate the area of the room they’re placed in. Most televisions today are slim-line, so a suitable space for them can easily be found.
Mirror placement
Hang mirrors mindfully: Mirrors can expand a room by making it look and feel bigger. Select a mirror that allows you to see your entire head, shoulders, and chest line to ensure it captures your aura. It’s important to frequently clean mirrors because according to Feng Shui a clean mirror releases positive energy, while a dirty mirror can charge the house with negative energy. Be mindful of what the mirror is reflecting, as bad reflections can double the negative energy in your home.
