Thurs 6, 6-7pm: “Up from the Ashes: Shepheard’s Cairo and the Birth of the Oriental Grand Hotel”, a public lecture byTarek Ibrahim on Shepheard's Hotel that was one of Cairo's most important institutions, the meeting place of the world's well-heeled elite and mirror to the profound social, cultural and political changes in Egypt from the 18th century to the 1950s. Ibrahim is currently a research associate in the Department for Strategy, Coordination and International Affairs of the Humboldt Forum in the Berlin Palace, the largest cultural project in Berlin, opening at the end of 2020. Ibrahim received his BA in art history from New York University in 2000 and his M Arch at Columbia University and Parsons the New School for Design in 2008. He received his Master’s in art and architectural history from the Humboldt University of Berlin in 2016.

Mon 10, 6pm: "The State Budget and Social Differences in Egypt", a lecture by researcher, journalist specialized in political economy and the field of socio-economic justice  Salma Hussein. The lecture examines the effects of public spending and tax policy on social differences in Egypt and represents a careful and easy-to-understand analysis of tax reform, wage and development.
