Mohamed Salah linked up well with new arrival Diego Costa to open the scoring in Chelsea’s 3-0 friendly victory over Vitesse Arnhem as he pushes for a place in the team’s star-studded squad ahead of the new season.

The Egypt forward, who joined Chelsea last January, is hoping to convince coach Jose Mourinho that he is good enough to hold down a regular place in a squad featuring the likes of Oscar, Willian, Eden Hazard as attacking midfielders or deep-lying forwards.

Chelsea needed three minutes to take the lead when Spanish striker Diego Costa raced clear from the halfway line and squared the ball to Salah for an easy tap-in into an empty net.

Further goals from fellow new arrival Cesc Fabregas and Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic gave Chelsea a comfortable win.

Salah made 16 appearances with Chelsea in all competitions last season after joining from Swiss side Basel, including 12 as a substitute.

He scored twice in the Premier League and twice in the UEFA Champions League.
