The match gets underway!

17:58 Hazem Emam and Emad Meteb will be skippering their respective sides tonight.

17:57 Both teams have entered the pitch now.

17:55 Emad Meteb will shoulder the responsibility of finsihing off Ahly's attacks tonight, with his heading prowess likely to post Zamalek problems tonight.

17:55 Upfront, Bassem Mosry's superb form of late suggested he will be the man to be given the not, however, it was ex-Ismaily striker Ali who will spearhead the attack.

17: 50 In midfield, Ibrahim Salah will be Zamalek's anchor man, with Ahmed Tawfik given license to dart forward, meanwhile in Ahly, Ashour will be the pivot with Rizk playing box-to-box.

17:47 Hosts Zamalek's other flank, however, may be not be equally active, with Ahmed Eid playing in front of natural right-back Hamada Tolba - opposed to Walid Soliman and Bassem Ali.

17:45 An interesting tactical battle awaits us on Zamalek's right flank that is occupied by Omar Gaber and Hazem Emam, who will be facing Trezeguet and Sabri Rahil.

17:40 On the other hand, visitors Ahly have ommitted Nigerian new-signing Peter Ebimobowei and Karim Bambo.

17:35 Both teams are currently warming up, with just  20 minutes remaining till kick off.

17:25 Zamalek left-back Saleh Mousa and mifielder Mohamed Shaaban have been left out from the final 18-man squad.

Starting lineups:

Zamalek: Ahmed El-Shennawy, Ali Gabr, Hamada Tolba, Ahmed Dwidar, Omar Gaber, Ahmed Tawfik, Ibrahim Salah, Ayman Hefni, Ahmed Eid, Hazem Emam, Ahmed Ali

On the contrary, I believe that our opponents are the ones who are under pressure because they bought a wholly new team, so they have no option but to beat us," said football director and former central defender Wael Gomaa, who was a key member of a hugely successful Ahly side during the past decade.

16:25 "My players are fully ready for the game and they are well aware of its importance. I can see a determination to win in their eyes," Zamalek manager Mohamed Salah said.

16:10 The hardcore Zamalek fanfirm Ultras White Knights has raised a banner at the Air Defense Stadium calling for the return of fans to the stands.

15:15 Ahly started the current campaign with Egypt's Super Cup and African Confederation Cup triumphs but they must deliver in the league to bridge an eight-point gap with Zamalek, who played a game more.

14:30 Zamalek's heavy spending in the close season looked to have paid dividends though, with the club enjoying a superb run of form, winning 12 out of 17 games to top the league, a competition they had not won in a decade.

13:45 French referee crew headed by Tony Chapron, who have been appointed to officiate Cairo derby game, made a tour of Egypt's Pyramids ahead of the crunch showdown.

13:30 Ahly defeated Zamalek 10 matches and drew eight in their last 18 encounters.

13:00 Zamalek have the upper hand going into Cairo derby but this is hardly an encouraging sign for their demanding supporters, who often see their side stumble against Ahly even when they enjoy the favourites tag.
