Fiorentina's Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah has criticised those demanding a swift resumption of the Egyptian league after the deaths of 20 people at a Cairo match on Sunday.

Twenty Zamalek fans were killed during a stampede outside a Premier League game against ENPPI on Sunday. The violence was reportedly triggered when security forces fired teargas at the confined crowd.

Egypt's cabinet decided to suspend the Egyptian Premier League indefinitely following the disaster at the Air Defence Stadium but there are demands for the suspension to be brief in order to rescue the football season and safeguard the industry.

"They are demanding a quick resumption of the Egyptian league but will the victims receive justice quickly?" Salah wrote on Twitter on Thursday.

The Egyptian prosecution have started investigations into the violence.

In January 2013, a court sentenced 21 Masry fans to death in the wake of violence at a match in Port Said that left 74 Ahly fans dead after a league game against Masry in February 2012.

In March 2013, an appeal court upheld the 21 death sentences, sentenced five people to life in jail and ordered jail sentences for the others, including 15 years for two police officers. Another 28 people were acquitted, including seven policemen.

However, almost one year later, a court ordered a retrial. The new trial is still ongoing.
