Mohamed Abou-Treika, who is widely regarded as one of the best footballers in Egypt’s history, has sarcastically congratulated his former teammates, Ahly striker Mohamed 'Gedo' Nagy and Fiorentina winger Mohamed Salah, after the two players scored in the Egyptian Premier League and Italy Serie A respectively on Sunday.

Twenty-two-year-old Salah, who joined Fiorentina on loan from Chelsea in the winter transfer window, had failed to find the back of the net for almost a month since 4 April.

The Egyptian international player, who played as a second-half substitute, cleverly turned two defenders inside-out to net his team's second goal just 12 minutes after his introduction.

Ahly's forward Mohamed 'Gedo' Nagy marked his return from injury after a year out with a goal during the 4-0 win over El-Geish in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday.

Gedo, who was out of action for almost a year due to a serious knee injury, came on as a substitute in the injury time as he notched the fourth goal for Ahly to start a new goal sheet with the team.

Fiorentina winger Mohamed Salah congratulated his Egypt national teammate Gedo on his return, as well as for scoring a superb goal seconds after his introduction, writing "Gedooooo" on his personal Twitter account.

A hugely popular football figure, Abou-Treika sarcastically commented on Salah's status, saying "the best two substitutes in the world," in reference to both Gedo and Salah entering the playing field from the bench and managing to score.

Thirty-six-year-old Abou-Treika made headlines last week, after the media reported that the central bank had seized the assets of a tourism company that he had founded in 2013 with an alleged member of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood.

Abou-Treika hung up his boots in late 2013 after leading Egypt’s most successful club Ahly to a host of domestic and continental trophies to earn a cult status among their faithful. He was also instrumental in helping Egypt win two African Cup of Nations titles in 2006 and 2008.

The two Egyptian stars Salah and Gedo celebrated their goals on their social media personal accounts after the games.

"Important win today boys, thank God for everything," Fiorentina star Salah wrote on his personal Twitter account after the game.

"Thank God for returning to the field and scoring after a long time," Gedo tweeted, in appreciation of his goal with Ahly after a long spell away following knee surgery.

"I thank my friends for their messages and support," Gedo added. "I thank the players who helped me and celebrated the goal more than I did."
