Ghana's veteran midfielder Michael Essien arrived in Athens on Monday night to seal a move to Greek side Panathinaikos.

The 32-year-old is set to join Panathinaikos on a free transfer after ending an 18-month spell at Italy's AC Milan.

"Just touched down in Athens and the love from the Panathenikos fans was incredible," Essien said on his Twitter account.

Essien enjoyed the best spell of his career at English side Chelsea from 2004 to 2014, winning nine trophies including two Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a Champions League winner's medal.
