Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny says Egypt manager Hector Cuper instructed his players to stay disciplined throughout Sunday's game against Tanzania at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium.
Egypt cruised last night 3-0 past a lowly Tanzania side in their first home game in Group G of the 2017 Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Rami Rabia, Bassem Morsi, and Mohamed Salah scored for the Pharaohs in a span of nine minutes in the second half.
"Since we don't know much about the opposition we had to be disciplined and wary of any unlikely scenario," Elneny said.
"We managed to stick to Cuper's orders, but wasted too many chances during the first half."
"Thank God we settled the match in the second half to prove that we are determined this time around to qualify for the upcoming Cup of Nations."
Record eight-time African champions Egypt have uncharacteristically missed out on the last three Cup of Nations editions after last winning the title in 2010.
