Egyptian striker Bassem Morsi was delighted after scoring his first international hat-trick in Sunday's African Cup of Nations qualifier against Chad, and said the Pharaohs are determined to return to the continental stage after failing to qualify for the last three editions.

The Zamalek striker took advantage of a goal fiesta as Egypt thrashed the Central African country 5-1 in the Group G match in N'Djamena.

The Pharaohs top the group on six points, two ahead of second placed Nigeria who were held to a goalless draw by Tanzania on Saturday.

"I am very happy with my hat-trick," Morsi told Bein Sports after the game.

"Scoring six goals in four matches shows I am on the right track.''

The 23-year-old said Egypt are determined to qualify for the Nations Cup, adding that Sunday's win would help them reach that target.

"Our target is to reach the upcoming Nations Cup and we are determined to achieve our goal," he said.

However, Egypt's assistant coach Ossama Nabi said that "respecting the opponents" and the "players' solidarity" were the secret of Sunday's victory.

"We prepared for the game seriously, and it was the secret of our victory," Nabih told Bein Sports.

"I am very happy with the players' performance during the game. Our solidarity will help the team reach the Nations Cup."
