The Egyptian volleyball team suffered a second successive defeat, losing 2-3 to Canada on Wednesday in the FIVB World Cup in Japan.

After a 2-3 defeat to Japan in their opening match on Tuesday, Egypt have collected just two points in the 12-team tournament, whose winners and runners-up will qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The Pharaohs won the first two sets 25–22 and 25–23 but the Canadians, led by coach Glenn Hoag, came from behind and clinched the next three sets 25–21, 26-24 and 15-12.

"Canada played well, especially in the fifth set. We had the lead in all the sets but they came back," Egypt coach Nehad Shehata told the championship's website after the game.

Egypt, who won their sixth successive - and eighth ever - African title on 30 July, are targeting an improved global ranking of seventh or eighth.

"Canada are going for the Olympic bid. We have young players and we're trying to improve our ranking and get experience here. We will play to our maximum in each match," Shehata added.

Egypt will meet Italy on 10 September before they take on Australia on 12 September and the United States on 13 September.

The Arab country held a training camp in Japan before the tournament between 27 August and 6 September.

Teams are ranked in descending order according to the number of matches won. In case of a draw the number of matches won will be considered.
