The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) ignored Zamalek's complaint about the standard of refereeing in the Egyptian Premier League, praising the work of the match officials on Monday.

"We relay our trust in the referees' ability and we hope that they would continue their positive contributions to the competition," the EFA said in a statement on Monday.

Zamalek's president Mortada Mansour criticised the referee who officiated his team's 3-2 defeat to Talae El-Geish on Sunday. The Cairo giants even issued a statement saying they would withdraw from the Egyptian Premier League in protest at "bad" refereeing.

The match saw two penalties against Zamalek and a red card for their international defender Ali Gabr, who left the pitch only four minutes after kick-off for tackling a challenger in the area.

EFA stressed that they remain equally independent from all clubs and that they would take action against individuals or clubs when needed.

"We refuse all interventions into the EFA's issues and we will take action against any infringements," the statement added.

It was reported that referees had decided to boycott Zamalek's upcoming matches in the domestic league. However, referee Samir Ossman denied the reports.

"The referees haven't made any statement concerning boycotting of Zamalek's games," Ossman told the EFA official website on Monday. "We have no problem with any club in the domestic league."

Zamalek will host Ghazl El-Mahalla on Wednesday in their next league match.
