Port Said outfit Masry said on Friday that they have accepted Zamalek’s LE3.5 million offer to sign versatile defender Hani Said in the ongoing transfer window.

Masry chairman Kamel Abou Ali finally agreed to offload Said, a long-term Zamalek target. The Cairo giants stepped up their interest in signing him following the arrival of former Egypt coach Hassan Shehata, who demanded that the club make big-name signings.

Said, who was one of Masry’s finest performers last season, managed to earn an Egypt call-up for an African Cup of Nations qualifier with South Africa in Cairo, which ended goalless to virtually end the Pharaohs’ hopes of reaching next season’s tournament and seal the fate of Shehata.

Shehata hinted lately that he could leave Zamalek due to their mounting financial problems which could prevent the club from signing high-profile players this summer. The 64-year-old tactician shoulders the White Knights’ hopes of ending Ahly’s domestic supremacy.

Ahly won a seventh consecutive Egyptian Premier League title after arch-rivals Zamalek surrendered a six-point lead at the top.

Zamalek have so far made one major acquisition after landing Egypt skipper Ahmed Hassan, whose contract with Ahly expired following the end of the season.

They have also agreed to sign Maqassa duo Hani Said, who is also a defender like his Masry namesake, and towering striker Hussien Hamdy.
