Egypt’s Zamalek have officially signed Ghanaian defender Karim Alhassan on a five-year deal that will keep him in the club until 2016.

“We have acquired the services of Ghanaian defender Karim Alhassan after the successful meeting between the club officials and the players’ representatives,” the Cairo-based club said in a statement on its official website Saturday,

The 20-year-old player joined the Whites on a free transfer after refusing to sign a new deal with Ghana’s Hearts of Oak.

Zamalek’s new head coach Hassan Shehata has asked the club board to sign seven new players to reconstruct the team to get back on the right track after the 2010/2011 trophy-less season.

The Egyptian Premier League runners-up have already landed Maqassa’s striker Hussein Hamdy on a three-year deal for LE 3 million ($508,500) and defender Hani Said on a one-season loan deal.

The Cairo giants are yet to finalise the deal for international player Ahmed Hassan after his departure from archrivals, Ahly.
