French tactician Herve Renard has reportedly turned down an offer to coach Cairo giants Ahly following the departure of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, local media reported on Thursday.

The 47-year old manager has confirmed to Egyptian sports site Filgoal that he has been contacted by an Ahly official and that he had been considering the offer.

However he had lately received an offer to take over an African national team and, for him, that comes as a priority.

Renard has built a successful reputation in Africa after leading Zambia and Ivory Coast to Nations Cup titles in 2012 and 2015 respectively, wearing his famous white shirt.

Last May he had his first taste of major European football as he took over French side Lille. But he was sacked in November after collecting 13 points from 13 league games.

Ahly are still in quest to hire a new manager very soon as the board has already announced that interim coach Abdel-Aziz Abdel-Shafi will be in charge during Ismaily and Ittihad matches only.
