English second-division side Hull City are preparing to make an offer to sign Essam El-Hadary from Sudanese giants Al-Merreikh, according to a report on the goalkeeper’s official website.
“Hull said they are interested in signing El-Hadary on loan in the summer transfer window,” said the report, which was published on Sunday.
“The English club will make their official offer in the next few hours, after which they will ask El-Hadary to undergo a medical before finalizing the move.”
El-Hadary, who has been involved in constant troubles with several clubs since leaving Egyptian champions Ahly in an acrimonious manner in 2008, has made no secret of his desire to leave El-Merreikh.
He joined El-Merreikh last January after ending a brief and unsuccessful spell with Zamalek but failed to settle in.
The veteran goalie, 38, looked as solid as ever during Egypt’s goalless draw at home to South Africa in an African Cup of Nations qualifier in June, suggesting that he is nowhere near retirement.
He is still determined to have another spell in European football, having played for Swiss side Sion after leaving Ahly.
El-Hadary’s Egypt teammate Amr Zaki had a brief stint with Hull City when they were still in the Premier League in the 2009-10 season but failed to score any goals.
