Title holders TP Mazembe of the DR Congo suffered a surprise 2-0 loss at Morocco's Wydad Casablanca on Saturday as they face a possible elimination from the African Champions League round of 16.

Wydad secured a precious first-leg win which could help them cause an upset and qualify for the group stage at the expense of their illustrious opponents, winners of five Champions League titles.

Abdellatif Noussir opened the scoring two minutes before the break and Reda Hajhoui converted a penalty six minutes past the hour mark to send the home fans into raptures.

Algeria's ES Setif, Champions League winners in 2014, played out an exciting 2-2 draw at Sudan's Merreikh.

Eudes Dagoulou put the visitors ahead on the quarter hour mark but Raji Abdalati equalized in the 35th minute.

Abdelmoumene Djabou restored Setif's advantage three minutes later but Abdalati scored again in the 54th minute to rescue a draw and keep Merreikh's hopes of reaching the group stage alive.

In other matches, two goals from Dao Issouf and Serge Arnaud gave Ivorian side ASEC a 2-0 home win over Libya's Ahli Tripoli and Stade Malien lost 3-1 at home to Zambia's Zesco.
