Ahly coach Martin Jol has praised his team’s winning spirit after Tuesday's precious Egyptian league victory over Smouha.

The Reds came back from a goal down to record a convincing 3-1 away league win against a plucky Smouha side in Alexandria to tighten their grip on the summit.

"We played against a strong opponent who haven’t lost for eight successive matches, so we had to concentrate to make best use of their weak points," Jol said in the press conference after the game.

"They scored early but the Red jersey's spirit restored the balance for Ahly. I am happy with the team’s performance," the Dutch coach added.

The fifth straight win, which marked manager's Jol's fourth consecutive victory since he took over in February, cemented Ahly's position on top of the table as they are now 11 points clear of second-placed Zamalek.

Ahly's next match will be against Haras El-Hodoud on 4 May.
