ENPPI qualified for the Egypt Cup final for the fourth time in their history following an 8-7 penalty shootout victory over a stubborn Arab Contractors side on Saturday.

After a marathon shootout, ENPPI had the upper hand in the sudden death penalties. Jubilant scenes erupted when Contractors’ Nigerian defender Shamusideen Tijani blasted his spot-kick against the crossbar.

ENPPI won their only title to date when they defeated Ittihad of Alexandria in the 2005 Egypt Cup final. They also reached the tournament’s final in 2008 against Zamalek and 2009 against Haras El-Hodoud.

The normal and extra times had ended 2-2 after an exciting affair in Cairo.

Midfielder Adel Mostafa put ENPPI ahead after 26 minutes when he fired a low shot into the bottom corner after being released by a superb pass from striker Ahmed Abdel-Zaher.

Promising midfielder Mohamed El-Nenni brought Contractors level six minutes before the break with a powerful long-range shot that went into the top corner of the net.

Adel notched his second of the night in the first half of extra time to restore ENPPI’s advantage.

ENPPI looked cruising to victory but were denied by a bizarre own goal from defender Osama Ragab, who headed a cross into his own net in the 112nd minute.
