Egypt all-time leading scorer Hossam Hassan will be released from prison after low-ranking policeman Reda Abdel-Majed has dropped the case he filed against him, Masry official website announced Thursday.

Ismailia prosecution had ordered the four-day detention of Hassan, who is now coach of Premier League club Masry, after he was filmed beating a policeman in public following a Friday league match.

Early Wednesday, Hassan was transferred from the coastal city Ismailia to Tora Prison in South Cairo to await his Saturday court appearance.

Hossam and detained assistants Hassan Moustafa and Walid Badr were all facing accusations of assaulting a low-ranking policeman, stealing and breaking his camera.

"Police officer Reda Abdel-Majed has dropped a case against Masry coach Hossam Hassan after efforts from the club's chairman," read a statement on the club's official website Thursday.

"More negotiation sessions were held between the club's chairman and the police officer with the attendance of the team's football director Ibrahim Hassan (Hossam's twin brother) and were finished with the state employee dropping the case," the statement added.
