Ahly suspend trainings 'indefinitely' after fan violence

Ahly’s board decided on Wednesday to halt the football team's training sessions until they reach a security solution with authorities' due to riots that occurred at the club’s branch in Nasr City.

"The Ahly board decided to suspend the first football team's training sessions indefinitely until the board meets with the interior minister to come up with real security precautions to protect the club and its players from attacks from the Ultra groups," the club stated on their official website on Wednesday.

Tens of fans stormed the club’s Nasr City branch on Tuesday to protest against the team’s recent poor results and to demand the departure of coach Martin Jol and some players including skipper Hossam Ghaly.

Physical attacks against some players were also reported.

Under Jol, Ahly won back their favorite title -- the Egyptian Premier League -- this season but lost the Egyptian Cup final to bitter rivals Zamalek.

The record holders lost their Africa Champions League bid after being eliminated from the group stage with poor results.
