Egyptian squash stars Mohamed Elshorbagy and Nour El Sherbini topped the Professional Squash Association's world rankings for the month of September in the men's and women's categories respectively.

Despite a surprise second round exit at the Hong Kong Open last month, 25-year-old Elshorbagy continues to lead the squash men's world rankings, as he has since November 2014 when he snatched the lead from World Champion Gregory Gaultier, who is currently second.

Nour El Sherbini -- who became the youngest ever world champion after winning the title two years ago -- remains at number one for the fifth consecutive month with England's Laura Massaro and Malaysia's Nicol David staying at second and third respectively.

Fellow Egyptian Ramy Ashour has returned to the top five for the first time in four months, after recovering from a hamstring injury.

The 28-year-old made a successful return to last week’s Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Open, beating compatriot Karim Abdel Gawad in the final.

World Championship runner-up Omar Mosaad and England’s Nick Matthew are the other players in the world’s top five men, at third and fourth place respectively, while Gawad’s runner-up finish was rewarded with a move up to a career-high sixth place, two places higher than last month.
