Ahly advanced to the Egypt Cup quarters after claiming an easy 2-1 over Dakhleya in the competition's round of 16 on Wednesday.

Striker Amr Gamal opened the scoring in the 32 minute when he side-footed Junior Ajayi's low cross into the empty net.

Skipper Hossam Ghaly doubled the seal, four minutes after the break, with a nice shot from inside the area giving his side a comfortable advantage.

The Cairo giants dominated the game in terms of possession, squandering many goal-scoring opportunities before winger Ahmed Samir Farag narrowed the gap two minutes after the hour-mark. The former Ahly winger followed a denied penalty with a nice volley, scoring the consolation goal for his side.

Ahly had the chance to make it three but substitute Amr El-Soulaya, who returned to action after a long period of absence due to injury, wasted a last-gasp penalty.

Winter new-signings Ahmed Hamoudi and Souleymane Coulibaly made their first appearance with the Cairo giants since joining the club in January. Hamoudi came off the bench in the 63 minute while the Ivorian striker replaced Amr Gamal in injury time.

Ahly, who are bidding for their first Egypt Cup since 2007, will face Wadi Degla in the quarters.
