Nigeria have edged close to secure their World Cup berth after thrashing Cameroon 4-0 at home on Friday.

The 2017 African Champions seemed merely a challenge and surrendered as early as the 29th minute when Odion Ighalo scored the opener for the hosts.

Captain John Obi Mikel doubled the lead two minutes before half time.

Cameroon pressed forward in the second half but left a lot of empty spaces at the back.

Chelsea winger Victor Moses was at the end of a quick counter to slide home the third from close range in the 56th minute to practically kill the game.

Substitute striker Kelechi Iheanacho got his name on the scoresheet when he headed home Ogenyi Onazi’s cross in the 77th minute to make it 4-0 at the delight of the home crowd.

The Super Eagles are now clear on top of Group B with 9 points ahead of Cameroon (2 points) and Algeria and Zambia who have each one point but they will face each other on Saturday.
