Egyptian refereeing committee head Essam Abdel-Fattah has unveiled the Emirati Mohamed Abdullah as the favourite referee for the anticipated Egypt Super Cup game between Ahly and Masry.
"We requested that the UAE Football Association hire an international referee who is a candidate to officiate the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and they recommended Abdullah," Abdel-Fattah told a Radio program Wednesday.
The UAE is organising the event for the third successive year, as spectators are banned from entering Egyptian football stadiums for security reasons.
The match will take place in Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in the UAE’s Al-Ain City on 12 January 19:00 Cairo Local Time (GMT +2).
Ahly are the holders of the Egyptian Premier League and Egypt Cup titles, while Masry is the runner-up in the Egypt Cup.
