After claiming their first win in 11 years over archrivals Ahly in the Egyptian domestic league, Zamalek caretaker coach Khaled Galal revealed that he had asked the players ahead of the game to do their best to please fans and not to concentrate on the tactics.

Zamalek secured a 2-1 victory in the Cairo derby on Thursday, happily ending an otherwise disastrous season which saw the club battle for third place.

"I told players, you have to please the team's fans without paying attention to the tactics, so you can focus on winning," Galal told a television programme after the game.

"Zamalek players deserve all the appreciation after achieving the victory," he said, adding, "the game is not effective on the League's table ranking but it will affect the team's fans, and that what we need."

Zamalek, who are competing in the Egypt Cup tournament, are third in the teams' table with 61 points, while Ahly have already won the domestic league.

"This victory will motivate the players to win the Egypt Cup," the Zamalek caretaker coach said.
