Egypt’s Masry threw away the chance to maintain a perfect start to their African Confederation Cup group-stage campaign after conceding a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at 10-man Al-Hilal Omdurman on Wednesday.

The visitors took the lead after 10 minutes when lively winger Islam Eissa powered home an impressive header after being picked out by a right-wing cross.

Hilal’s hopes of leveling the score took a blow when Eltaher Elhag was sent off in the 28^th minute for a rough challenge on Masry’s Farid Shawki.

Hilal still pressed hard for an equaliser in the second half but Masry almost caught them on the break, spurning a golden chance to double their lead seven minutes past the hour mark when winger Ahmed Shoukri headed over the bar with the goal gaping.

Masry were punished 10 minutes from time when Hilal were awarded a penalty for a handball on Burkinabe defender Mohamed Koffi, which Geovane Maranhao converted to a secure a share of spoils.

The result put Masry, who defeated Mozambique’s HCB Songo 2-0 in their opening game, second in Group B with four points, two behind leaders RSB Berkane of Morocco.

Hilal lie third on a solitary point while Songo are still without any points after two games.
