Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren considers his teammate Mohamed Salah the best player in the world, Lovren said ahead of the anticipated UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid, which will take place on Saturday 26 May.

“Definitely,” the 28-year-old player answered when asked whether Salah is the best player in the world at the moment, during a post-match press conference on Monday.

“I spoke to Mo about that [winning the Ballon d’Or]. It is still quite an early stage, but if we win, he would definitely be one of the contenders [for the prize]. He can be in the top three. He already has the quality, the experience. He is so calm, a man down to earth, and he deserves every credit and definitely we will help him achieve this dream.”

"When you look at Messi, Ronaldo, [after that] it's Mo Salah. He deserves to be in the top three," the Croatian insisted.

This year, the 25-year-old Salah played the best season ever played by an Egyptian, scoring 44 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions this season.

He has clinched all individual titles in the Premier League, including Player of the Year and the Golden Boot, and will get the chance to add to that tally when Liverpool face Real Madrid.
