Zamalek’s new coach Christian Gross has expressed optimism over his task, promising fans victories and championships.
"I thank the board for selecting me. I am happy to coach a club with Zamalek's weight," the former coach of Saudi’s Ahli said on Tuesday at a press conference held at the club headquarters to announce his appointment.
"I will give Zamalek all my energy. I respect all opponents but I know Zamalek fans only know victories and championships," the 63-year-old Swiss stressed.
The veteran manager, whose technical experience began in 1988, is said to be the highest-paid coach in the Egyptian competition. His contract is funded by the head of the Saudi General Authority of Sport Turki Al-Sheikh.
"The Gross deal didn't cost the club a penny. His move is sponsored by Turki Al-Sheikh," Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour said at the press conference.
Al-Sheikh is also investing in Pyramids Club, previously known as Assioty Sports, who are splashing cash to target star players and coaches.
Mansour has said that Zamalek are in a partnership with Pyramids Club.
Zamalek, who have cycled through a number of coaches over the last few seasons, won the Egypt Cup after finishing the Egyptian Premier League in the fourth place with 61 points, 27 behind winners Ahly, whom they will meet in the Super Cup.
