The new head coach of Egypt's national football team will be revealed next week according to Egyptian football association (EFA) board member Ahmed Megahed, who opened the door to the possibility of appointing an Egyptian tactician to the vacant post.

"The name of the new coach will be unveiled next week," Megahed told an Egyptian radio station on Wednesday.

Seven-time African champions Egypt are currently searching for a replacement for Argentinean boss Hector Cuper who lost any hope of renewing his contract after the team's modest performance at the World Cup.

"We are currently studying the profiles of some coaches. Sure, the dominant trend is to hire a foreign coach, but appointing an Egyptian for the post is also possible," Megahed explained.

"We already met with some coaches and also we surveyed the opinions of some international football stars during the World Cup.

"We have settled on the contract duration of the new coach. It will be until the end of the 2022 World Cup or until the end of the qualifications if we fail to reach the finals," he explained.

The Pharaohs, who recently made their first World Cup appearance since 1990, had their hopes shattered in Russia, losing all three group-stage games.

Egypt, who currently rank 45th globally, lost 1-0 against Uruguay in their opener, before being stunned by a 3-1 loss to Russia, who rank 70th worldwide. Egypt then collapsed against 67th-ranked Saudi Arabia to be sent into the bottom place in the group A table.

On Tuesday, Morocco's French coach Herve Renard has insisted that he will remain in his position with the Atlas Lions, quashing recent rumours that he might leave to take charge of Egypt.
