Egypt's Mohamed Ihab has broken the world record in being crowned champion in the men's 81kg category at the ongoing Weightlifting World Championship in Turkmenistan on Monday.
The men's 81kg event was held for the first time at the world championship.
Ihab set the world record in the snatch after lifting 173kg, 3kg more than the world record.
However, the Egyptian weightlifter won the bronze medal in the clean and jerk with 200kg to collect a total of 373kg, which allowed him to win the silver medal with 1kg less than Olympic champion Lü Xiaojun of China, who won the gold medal in the total.
Ihab won three gold medals in the men's 77kg category in the 2017 World Championships in the United States last December
The 28-year-old has become Egypt's most decorated weightlifter with four gold medals, ahead of Nahla Ramadan and the late Khedr El-Touni, who won three world titles each.
